The King of Fighters: Maximum Impact, that is. First details, screens and more.
SNK NeoGeo USA today broke with its steeped arcade tradition today by exclusively unveiling with IGN readers the company's first original King of Fighters game for PlayStation 2, King of Fighters: Maximum Impact, due in fall 2004.
Turning yet another corner in its classic 2D fighting history, King of Fighters: Maximum Impact is not only originally designed for the PlayStation 2, it's the company's first 3D fighter, starring among many other fan favorites Terry Bogard and Kyo Kusanagi. SNK's newest creation, in development with SNK Playmore, will offer a range of original new characters for the series, as well as original backgrounds and previously unseen fighting moves.
"The King of Fighters franchise is one of the anchor franchises of the SNK product line," said Ben Herman, SNK NeoGeo USA Consumer Corporation President. "We're confident that KOF fans worldwide will be very excited about this great evolution for the series."
The new offering gives players the chance to vie in five different modes of play (Story Mode, VS Battle, Survival, Practice and Training), using 24 SNK characters of which 14 are returning favorites, six are brand new, and four are hidden bonus characters. The 3D realm offers players enhanced character movement such as a sideways maneuver and four unique jumps moves in addition to unique combination strikes and the newly implemented Knock Back Attack.
